About the Book

Hi! I'm Jae Miller, author of Emerging From the Water. Although I work in the mental health field, I'm not an expert on mental health. I'm someone who usually teaches others but I have also lived, lost, and learned how to keep going. I used some of the skills I learned in my studies, but also had to create some plans that worked best for me at different points in my journey.

Emerging From the water was created after struggling my way through grief and mental health. Even with my training, it was difficult to use some of the skills I learned, giving me a better understanding of what my clients endure. This book is not meant to "trauma dump" but is meant to show that even with the skills, training, and experience, it can still be hard to manage mental health. This book is for anyone who is struggling to understand they are not alone. 

When you're struggling with something, whether it's grief, pain, heartbreak, or mental health, it can often feel like you're drowning in the emotions. However, after you stop struggling, relax and create a plan, you can swim above it allowing you to emerge. Now when you emerge, it will be slow and messy, and you still have to make it to shore, but you took the first step and if you can do that, you can do anything!
